Crime of the Century is a brilliant album that was put out by the band SUPERTRAMP in 1975. The SUPERTRAMP song of the same title was adopted as the title track because the theme of the song encapsulates the theme of the rock opera. Crime of the Century the rock opera is a work capable of rivaling some of the greatest and biggest selling recordings of our modern age. Musically, lyrically, and story-wise, it far surpasses THE WHO's TOMMY. The musical range traverses everything from post punk to pop metal, jazz fusion, hip hop, techno trance, stadium rock, reggae, tango, chant, and even a cover of Schubert. A BRIEF SYNOPSIS: The story tells the tale of a young hero who is a rising star in the world of rock music. Peter Fox becomes inspired by Princess Diana and makes it his mission to put an end to land mine production. This draws the attention and ire of a powerful and secret cabal vying for world domination through it's various corporate fronts. Their solution is to seduce Peter to the dark side and use him to their own ends. At first the plan seems to be working, but when it is derailed by Peter's one true love Valentina, they are both brought to the Bohemian Grove where Peter is programmed to stab her to death in a climactic human sacrifice scene. This same theme caused a riot in Paris when STRAVINSKI unveiled it in his RITE OF SPRING. The ending is intentionally ambiguous lending an air of mystery to the story in which the listener can create their own ending, though a clue is left as to what the author thinks!!! Of course the question arises "what exactly is the CRIME OF THE CENTURY?"
Subtle clues exist in certain lyrics. Pay close attention to "give love" and "rapatitive #5".

Several different operatic and theatrical elements have been incorporated into CRIME OF THE CENTURY THE ROCK OPERA, creating new and interesting innovations. The classic greek theater narrative "chorus", is combined the with the classic operatic "recatative". They are modernized to a "rapatative" where 3 rappers narrate the story moving the action forward. The concept of the "leitmotiv" has been employed as a styalistic rather than thematic marker. Peter's music is always the big stadium rock sound, Valentina is represented by techno trance, and Abraxius' music always has a reggae backbeat etc... Our sincere thanks for visiting this sight.
